Ukrainian contract manufacturer of electronic devices, VD MAIS, has become the technical sponsor of the first Hardware Engineering Hackathon by YEP. July n28th-30th 8 student teams from 5 polytechnic universities, who took the YEP course “Technological Leadership in Hardware Startups” during the semester, presented their work results.
All projects are extremely interesting, have social impact and commercial prospects: students covered areas such as energy, medicine, waste processing, precision agriculture, and others. The jury, including representatives from VD MAIS, selected the winners based on criteria such as accessibility and level of prototype development, market potential, social significance, and more. The winners received commemorative gifts from VD MAIS, and the grand winner will be rewarded by donors with participation in a European hardware conference as part of the Ukrainian delegation.
Congratulations to the winners – the Faults Detection team from the Central Ukrainian National Technical University, which developed and presented a microprocessor device for detecting locations of damages in the electrical network and calculating the distance to the damage.
The 2nd place was taken by the DeMinEye team from Donetsk National Technical University with their compact metal detector module for various platforms.
The 3rd place was shared by the HealthHelper team from the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” (a device for early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases) and the Bottle for 3-D Print team from Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic (a device for recycling plastic bottles into filament for 3D printing).
In addition to the presentations of their developments during the hackathon, Maxim Anisimov, Deputy Director for Development, spoke about trends in the technological hardware industry and took part in a panel discussion on engineering education in Ukraine.
In the future, the YEP “Entrepreneurial University” team plans to scale the project “Technological Leadership in Hardware Startups,” while VD MAIS will collaborate in supplying components and organizing events.
